Capecitabine 500mg Tablet belongs to medicines group called anti neoplastic that refers to cancer medicines and belongs to the class of “antimetabolite.” It is a peach or light peach film coated tablets that contains hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, talc, and synthetic yellow and red iron oxides. It is non-cytotoxic in vitro (research or work performed outside a living organism) and converted into 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) in vivo (research or work done within or with the living organism).
Capecitabine is prescribed alone or given in the combination with chemotherapy. It treats various cancers like breast, colon, or rectal cancers.
It is prescribed for metastatic cancers in the body.
Cancerous tumor cells are distinguished by their cell division and these are uncontrollable like in normal tissue. The normal cells stop dividing when they come in contact with uncontrollable cells, and these cancer cells divides without any balance and checks growing more in number and increasing the cancer in the patient. Chemotherapy along with anticancer medicines like Capecitabine kill these multiplying cancer cells and control the disease.
If you experience hand-foot syndrome or PPE which means rashes, swelling, redness, pain/peeling off of the skin in the hand palms and feet soles immediately after two weeks of the treatment, see your doctor, he/she might alter the dose of the medicine.
